BLADE ANGLE EFFECT ON DROPLET SIZE SPECTRUM OF ROTARY ATOMIZERS USED IN BRAZIL REA
Carvalho,Fernando K.; Antuniassi,Ulisses R.; Chechetto,Rodolfo G.; Mota,Alisson A. B.; Kruger,Greg R..
ABSTRACT The effect of blade angle on droplet size spectrum of five rotary cage atomizers and one rotary disc atomizer used in Brazil was evaluated in a high speed wind tunnel, with an air speed of 180 km h−1. This study included the characterization of the droplet size spectrum, via laser diffraction instrument, generated by three blades angles, of 45, 60 and 75 degrees. The spray solution was composed of Picoxystrobin+ Cyproconazole fungicide (SC), at 20 mL c.p. L−1, and at a flow rate of 6 L min−1. As the angle decreased from 75 to 45 degrees, the rotational speed of the atomizers increased and the volume median diameter (VMD) decreased. However, increasing the rotational speed also increased the percentage of droplets smaller than 100 µm (% < 100...

Efficacy of glyphosate applied using an electrostatic sprayer as affected by adjuvant and carrier volumes Planta Daninha
B. Campos,Saulo F.; A.R. Cunha,João P.; H.T. Assunção,Heli; C. Alves,Thales; H.S. Zandonadi,César; M.Lemes,Ernane.
Abstract Background: The use of electrostatic spray has the potential to optimize pesticide applications; however, further studies are required to verify its effectiveness. Objective: The objective of this work was to evaluate the electrostatic application system for the chemical control of weeds with glyphosate and adjuvant in different carrier volumes. Methods: The physicochemical properties of the spray solution, charge/mass relations, spray deposition on weeds, losses to the soil, effectiveness of weed control, and spray drift were evaluated. The field experiment was designed to have randomized blocks with four replications in a 2x2x2+2 factorial: the presence or not of electrostatic spray; with and without adjuvant (soybean lecithin + propionic...

Hormesis with glyphosate depends on coffee growth stage Anais da ABC (AABC)
CARVALHO,LEONARDO B. DE; ALVES,PEDRO L.C.A.; DUKE,STEPHEN O..
Weed management systems in almost all Brazilian coffee plantations allow herbicide spray to drift on crop plants. In order to evaluate if there is any effect of the most commonly used herbicide in coffee production, glyphosate, on coffee plants, a range of glyphosate doses were applied directly on coffee plants at two distinct plant growth stages. Although growth of both young and old plants was reduced at higher glyphosate doses, low doses caused no effects on growth characteristics of young plants and stimulated growth of older plants. Therefore, hormesis with glyphosate is dependent on coffee plant growth stage at the time of herbicide application.

Plant Growth Responses of Apple and Pear Trees to Doses of Glyphosate Planta Daninha
CARVALHO,L.B.; DUKE,S.O.; MESSA,J.R.; COSTA,F.R.; BIANCO,S..
ABSTRACT Glyphosate is commonly used for intra-row weed management in perennial plantations, where unintended crop exposure to this herbicide can cause growth reduction. The objective of this research was to analyze the initial plant growth behavior of young apple and pear plants exposed to glyphosate. Glyphosate was sprayed on 2-year-old 'Gala' apple and 'Abbè Fetel' pear plants at doses from 18 to 720 g per hectare of acid equivalent (a.e.). The plant height of neither species was not significantly reduced (less than 1%) by any glyphosate dose at 240 days after spraying, whereas the stem diameter and the dry mass of stem and leaves were reduced by 720 g a.e. ha-1. The glyphosate dose required to reduce the aboveground dry mass by 50% was 162 and 148 g...

SPECTRUM AND VELOCITY OF DROPLETS OF SPRAY NOZZLES WITH AND WITHOUT AIR INDUCTION REA
França,Jorge A. L.; Cunha,João P. A. R. da; Antuniassi,Ulisses R..
ABSTRACT The aim of this study was to evaluate the spectrum and the velocity of droplets produced by nozzles with and without air induction, under different pressures and flow rates. The experiment was conducted in a completely randomized design with five replications, in a factorial 2 x 3 x 3 (two spray nozzles, three flow rates and three operating pressures). The spray nozzles with and without air induction of the Hypro manufacturer (GA and VP) were evaluated, with nominal flow rates of 0.76; 1.14 and 1.51 L min-1 and pressures of 200, 300 and 400 kPa. The spectrum and velocity of the droplets were determined directly, using a Visisize Portable P15 (Oxford Lasers, Imaging Division). The pressure increases further reduction of the VMD and the relative...
